And upgrade to the favorite Tick Attack board, this Tick Begone (with a hexagon) is used in the same way with several advantages. Available is two variations- staple cut out and flat edge (staple cut out is “yes” and flat edge “no”).

  1. Long-lasting life.  It should endure for hundreds of uses instead of the 30 or so uses from the Tick Attack board.
  2. Highly controlled tick removal surface.
  3. More comfortable to hold and longer to use in older books, too.
  4. Comes in multiple colors.

Some caution:  You should never use a tacking iron at higher than 130F on a comic book.  125F is preferred.  These part will be primarily made of PLA or PETG (when available). PLA starts to soften at 140F and PETG at 175F. with 8-10 seconds of tacking iron application through a cover and a piece of silicone paper, they won’t soften at all, but do not rest your tacking iron on the tick begone.  never use a Tick Begone in a heat press or use the top surface to remove ticks or wrinkles.  Use a chamfer board for that!

First of all, love your channel, information and products.

I am assuming you 3D printed the Tick Begone, because you can see obvious layers on the rounded edge. Those layers created ridges that were pressed into the book. I try not to put anymore pressure than the weight of the iron. This could definitely be user error but, I still wanted to bring it to your attention.

I did end up using some light grit sand paper to smooth out the ridges and it helped.

Hi Sean, Sorry for the late reply. I was traveling nad didnt notice this review (we get very few).
Thanks for your insight, I really appreciate it.
      I have a few notes
      1) I have not seen the same effect with the lines and no one else has reported it to me. However I was concerned about it early on. I did take the precaution of only putting the tick begone under the first page of the book (NOT directly onder the cover) and using the silicone release paper and a light touch. (as you did). I’ve done this on about 60 books so far with good results. Except for this instance, our customers are reporting similar good outcomes.

      2) If the tick begone design is a contributing factor then I may have a solution that could help you beyond your sanding, The original variation has 0.2mm lines and not they are 0.04mm lines on the product. They also now have a gentler fillet and a larger top surgace, they photos havent been updated but the products are improved. If you’d like one, I’ll send it to you for free. email me at [email protected].

Thanks for your input again, its so valuable to our continued success!

      Best wishes,

      Rick
