Description
Tick Begone – Precision Tick Removal Tool
An upgraded evolution of the original Tick Attack Board, the Tick Begone is designed to give collectors greater control, durability, and comfort when removing ticks from comic book spines.
Built for repeated use and consistent results, the Tick Begone improves on the original design with a more refined working surface and longer lifespan—making it a reliable tool for both occasional and frequent conservation work.
How It’s Used:
The Tick Begone is used during the tick removal process to support the comic book spine while applying controlled heat and pressure (typically with a tacking iron). Its surface helps isolate and target spine ticks with precision, reducing the risk of overworking surrounding areas.
Key Advantages:
- Extended lifespan: Designed to last for hundreds of uses (significantly more durable than the original Tick Attack Board)
- Improved control: Provides a stable, consistent surface for precise tick removal
- Comfortable handling: Easier to hold and maneuver, especially when working on older or more delicate books
- Multiple configurations:
- Staple cut-out option (Yes/No)
- Edge style (flat edge or standard)
- Construction: solid or hexagonal (hollow) infill
- Color options: Available in a variety of colors (may vary based on availability)
Important Usage Notes:
- Always keep tacking iron temperatures below 150°F (ideal range: 130–140°F)
- Materials used: PLA+ or PETG
- PLA+ begins to soften at ~150°F
- PETG begins to soften at ~175°F
- When used properly (8–10 seconds of heat applied through a comic cover and silicone paper), the tool will maintain its shape
- Do not rest a hot tacking iron directly on the Tick Begone
- Do not use in a heat press
- Do not use the top surface for general wrinkle or press work—use a chamfer board for those applications
